It is necessary to have a minimum of 4 years' experience in a working garage and a full UK driving license for the vehicle class you want to test.
CPD stands for continual professional development, it is a model the DVSA are using as part of their aim to modernise the MOT scheme. DVSA have changed the way MOT training is carried out. From April 2016, DVSA has replaced the suspended MOT tester refresher course with MOT annual training and an assessment.
Every year between April and March, all testers must complete 3 hours of training and pass the annual exam. They will also need to keep a record of this training at their VTS. You can purchase the training that has been specified by DVSA on our eLearning portal by clicking here >>. Once you have completed all the courses please print out the certificates and keep them with your training records at your VTS.
The Annual Assessment will consist of 30 online multiple-choice questions, on the DVSA MOT Annual Training syllabus, and can be taken at any time. Each year, the DVSA will publish an Annual Training syllabus outlining the mandatory elements the assessment will be based on. The Annual Assessment will also cover new information from MOT special notices, additional guidance published by the DVSA, and MOT inspection standards and procedures for your relevant vehicle class.
Once You Have Passed Your Exam
Once you have completed the MOT Annual Exam you will be emailed a certificate.
Your certificate will have a unique individual reference code that will be sent to DVSA via the awarding body. In addition you will need to log in to the MOT testing service and enter your unique certificate number for your MOT Annual Exam.
This certificate number will be cross matched with details from the awarding body to ensure that the certificate is authentic.
Follow these instructions when you log into the MOT Testing Service
Your Profile > MOT Annual Exam > Add Your Unique Certificate Number

Online Courses
If you have forgotten your details and cannot log into your account please let us know and we can help you.
If you have failed your annual assessment you need to purchase the exam only option again in our online shop. Once you have done this you will need to get in contact with us to let us know you wish to take the exam again so we can reset your account ID. Failing to do this, and your account will go through under the same account ID and your certificate will be rejected, whether you passed it or not. Once you have purchased the exam again please get in contact with us here.
Occasionally some orders may not automatically complete, so a member of our team will have to do it for you 🙂 We keep on top of this when we are in the office and check regulatory. As our office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 - 17:00, we cannot check the orders all the time. If you purchase a course out of these times and it is not showing up, please be patient with us. We will sort it out on the next working day. If it has taken more than a few days for your order to show under your course list then please let us know.
Your Annual Assessment certificate will be emailed to you by ABC Awards who are the awarding body for the exam. You will only be able to download the training certificates from our website as this is what we provide. You may or may not see a completed tick next to the Annual Assessment course, but please pay no attention to that as you complete the exam on a third party website, so that completion just shows whether or not you have clicked on the course and does not indicate whether or not you have taken the exam.
Yes. If you can remember your log in details then simply log into your account, go to our online shop and make your purchase and then your courses will show under 'My Courses'. If you have forgotten your log in details then get in contact with us here and we can assist you.
On the course, on our website, there is a link to get in contact with us to get the access code for the exams. This link is above the blue button to take the exam. Alternatively you can contact us via the contact form.
We will respond to you within our office hours of Monday-Friday, 9:00-17:00. Out of these hours we will respond to you on the next working day.
If you have passed your exam, your certificate will be sent to you by ABC Awards, not us. Sometimes it may take up to 3 days to receive your certificate. If you have not received it after this time, and are sure it has not gone into your junk folder, please let us know and we can try to track it down for you. You should always double check that the email address you input is correct.
The annual assessment course is different to the annual training courses, as the exam is completed on a third party website. You may see a green tick under completed which just means you have clicked onto the course, not that you have completed the exam. Do not worry if you have completed it and the tick does not show, as sometimes it may show up and sometimes not. As long as you have you exam certificate that is all that matters. DVSA will not check this course list as part of your CPD log.
Great! We can provide you with all the information you may need. Please get in touch with us on 0345 459 0231 or send us a message here.
We can also help with: MOT Manager, Quality Control, Hybrid & Electric Vehicles, Air Con, and Vehicle Technician courses.
Each purchase needs to be made under the account that will be using the course. This is because when you purchase a course you will be required to enter you name and email address, which will be the name that goes on the training certificates and then gets sent through to the actual assessment. If you are a garage manager and want to purchase courses for all of your testers then you should use the group management course purchase. Alternatively you can give us a call and make a payment over the phone for multiple courses and we can manually set up each individual account for you. Please call us on 0345 459 0231.
